“Safety and security doesn’t just happen, but are the result of a collective public response. We owe it to our children, women and the aged to invest in the safety and security of our city,” said Kawa.

Kawa praised the support she had received from the political leadership of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality.

Nelson Mandela Bay Executive Mayor, Cllr Zanoxolo Wayile, praised Kawa for her brave reaction in the aftermath of her brutal attack.

“What happened to Andy Kawa on our shores is unacceptable, the King’s Beach upgrade is an opportunity for the NMBM to ensure that we do all we can to ensure that it never happens again and that we pay attention to the safety of citizens

and tourists visiting the beach, which is why we will also be putting out a security tender at the end of Phase Two,” said Mayor Wayile.

“Your advocacy has undoubtedly contributed to increase safety awareness and safety measures in and around the beach, which will in the years to come achieve a reduction in similar attacks on women and other innocent and vulnerable users of this magnifcent beach,” said Mayor Wayile.
