The safety and security of beachgoers has been prioritised in the second phase of the King’s Beach development.

This phase of the King’s Beach development kicks off in July, and will include improved lighting along the beach area and beefed up security.

The safety of beachgoers was placed under the spotlight last year, following the brutal attack and gang rape of a former Port Elizabeth businesswoman, Andy Kawa, at King’s Beach.

Kawa was back in the city in March this year to witness the unveiling of the Phase Two development of the King’s Beach

area by the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality through its development entity, the Mandela Bay Development Agency.

The Phase Two development, which starts in July, will cost R25 million and will include seating areas around the water body, additional paths and walkways over the dunes, an upgraded and expanded skateboard facility, basketball court, improved lighting and a more open landscaped area to promote better surveillance and safety.

The PhaseOne development is nearing completion, and includes the creation of a massive water body next to the parking area, fencing, grassing, a dedicated picnic area, with a new play park for children and additional paving around the water body.
